Milan: The Official First Day

Feeling refreshed after 11 hours sleep, we were ready for our first full day of siteseeing around Milan!
We loaded up on breakfast and heaed back the the Duome to climb the roof and catch the tour bus. Following some old ladies we found the entrance to the Duomo roof and decided to climb the stairs! It was a great view over Milan walking through the fantastic carvings that lined the roof top! It is truley amazing how they were carved!

After 30 minutes or so we headed back down and hopped on the tour bus that took you to all the sights around Milan. It took about 2 hours but we picked afew places we wanted to get off at.
One was a park with some markets, and as we went to enter, were were informed that we needed to pay for a ticket to go in. 8 Euro my ass!
We skipped the markets, and found something worth spending some euro on, lunch!

We walked across a park to another sight, being some giant arch e had spotted. Took afew photos and continued walking to find the next pickup stop for the siteseeing bus. We stopped in a market and picked up an apple, some milka chocolate (YUM) and discovered you can buy vodka in the supermarket for 4 Euro!! Now that would be euros well spent.

We joined the tour again and set off on a different line, doing a whole lap before getting off that the drop off just near our hotel! We chilled before dinner, then set out to a pizzeria we had spotted! ooooo i love italian pizza! Bed by 10pm,we were over Milan and ready to start exploring the rest of Italy!!

Arrival in Milano

About 13hrs flying time after leaving Singapore, Ant and I have finally landed in sunny Milano, Italy.
My tiredness brought up my bad direction and and ability to loose things to full force, and we were running around like "tourist" through the airport and train stations. Finally we reached the right train station, coming out into the giant Piazzale Duca d'Aosta. To find our barings, we made way to the nearest Macca's in hope to steal their WIFI. They most be the only store in the world to lack internet usage. Out came the phones and we trudged our way up what we assumed was the rights street.
Now surely we didnt need to come this far.... out come the phone.... to far.
Retracing our steps we finally reached out hotel, one we had both looked at and wallked past.

Quick check in, a bit of skype chat to let people know we were alive and a shower and we were ready for lunch. My god a ham and cheese toasty wrap has never tasted so good, and dont get me started on the chocolate cup tiramisu we shared. The desserts here look incredible. Though whilst eating we came to realise that we were dressed in an attire that certainly stood out in the crowds of fashionable Milan. Thongs are not a common shore, and in ants case, nor are boardshorts. So we bolted back after lunch for a quick shoe change (the boardies stayed) and we got lost.

Wandering the streets of Milan, Ant got his first viewing of the italian style buildings, the italian way of parking and a taste of gelato... yumm!!

Parking in Milan

After an aimless hour wandering, we decide to hit up the Duomo.... And what an impressive site to behold! The detail on the stone carvings and the layers of the roof top that make the statues and building design stand out are amazing. Well worth a see! We plan to climb the roof tomorrow.

Now we are back in our rooms, chillin before heading out to an early dinner then to catch up on the time zone with some early zzzz's..................

I think our first day of backpacking started like any novice backpackers wood, uncertain, adventures and experimental.
Bring on Day 2!

Travel Update

5 hours out of Perth and we are currently sitting in the Singapore Changi Airport, waiting 4 hours away before we have to board our 2nd flight to Milan, Italy. After the stress of the last few days packing, then a pretty emotional farwell at the airport with family and friends, I think we have both been hit full force with a wave of tiredness, plus doesnt hep that we have to wait until 1.30am to fly out.

That bed in Milan is looking very good right now....
