New Heart Rate Monitor and Mini Challenge results

Earlier this year, I brought a Heart Rate monitor. Not sure as to what got me interested in the first place but I absolutely love it! Its nice to see what you are getting out of whatever exercise you are doing and personally, I feel encouraged to push harder to reach a higher beats per minute (BPM) or reach a certain amount of calories when its right there for me to see!

The last week I did a mini challenge for myself and wore it every time I did some exercise to see how intense I may or may not be working!
Some days I was a couple of minutes into my walks so had to quickly set it up haha but they are all recorded! It was interesting to see on my usual day walks, although I walk the same distance everyday (to and from work), I might walk a minute slower, or faster, or not at a pace that increases my heart rate as high as I would expect! I worked out a long time ago the route is roughly 150 calories and a 25 minute walk, but you can definately see how my intensity and time varied over the week!

I also wore it during my gym classes! Although its not a good indicator for weight training as to how much you burn in a workout, my HRM is still useful in monitoring my heart rate and how much the weights I may be using increases my BPM for different body parts and weight increases.

So I took a photo of my results on my watch after every exercise and made a small collage for each day. Heres my week’s worth of exercise as recorded by my Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor:

Monday and Tuesday workouts

Wednesday and Thursday workouts

Friday, Saturday and Sunday Workouts

My weekly exercise as you can see above consists mainly of walking, Body Pump classes, Body Attack classes and a CXWorx classes.

I pretty much for this exact routine every week, with a couple of changes like swimming instead of CXWorx, or a walk might be a jog, or I may walk the dogs which is a slower pace. My main routine I never change is walking to and from work Monday - Friday, body attack and pump on Monday nights, body pump on Wednesday nights and body pump again on Saturday morning! I am guaranteed to always do those activities! I like my routine, it fits into my lifestyle and I enjoy all that I do!

I’m not a massive fan of cardio, and over the last year or so, I’ve come to enjoy weight training a lot more.

I have been looking up programs on bodybuilding.com and playing around with the boys weights at home, hell even attampted a deadlift with 30kg, DAMN it was hard haha so dropped down to 20kg haha
Anyways, there is a new 24hour gym opening up just around the corner from home, and I think I might join to start doing heavy weights! Not just my pump class, but my own routine. I would still do pump on maybe Monday and Wednesday nights just to get a full body workout, but I really want to start lifting heavy! So I’ll let you know what happens in the future regarding that :D

Today I have done my walks to and from work, and tonight, I will be doing 1 hour Body Attack and 1 hour Body Pump! I don’t know how I’m going to go though as my butt is still very sore from CX on Saturday morning haha. I usually take a few kilo off on my weights too as I am exhausted by the end of Attack and trying to do weighted squats on my jelly legs just doesn’t happen haha

Wish me luck ;)

(note: I didnt end up doing pump, had a massive headache after attack! And Attack was insane, so muggy and sticky hot in the classroom, I was sweating first track in!!)
